How to Share Airtel Data in 3 Easy Steps

Airtel calls it SmartShare and this, for short, is a service that allows you as an Airtel subscriber, to share your data with another Airtel subscriber.

Or in other words, you (as an Airtel customer with an active data plan) have the opportunity to share your data with your friends, family member, employees, otherwise known as recipients.

That way your recipient will be using your data to surf the internet on their own devices (laptops, phones, tablets) anywhere, anytime.

Let’s just say Airtel is giving you another way to show that you care.

Now the question is, do you care?

If you do really care, below are two Airtel data sharing options for you to explore. To be followed immediately is a Do It Yourself (DIY) guide to help you execute any of the data sharing options of your choice.

Me2U is not the Same as Data Gifting

Me2U lets you (the owner customer) share your data plan with another Airtel subscriber/user (the recipient).

Data gifting, on the other hand, is a simple way of saying that you are buying data for another Airtel subscriber.

Further, in the case of Me2U, 200 MB is the maximum data volume you can share, and you are only allowed two Airtel users daily. Conversely, for data gifting, you can buy data for as many people (Airtel users) as you want.

Sharing and Gifting Airtel Data in 2 Easy Steps

Step 1: Change your pin (if you have not already done so. If you have, go straight to step 2.)

This information is only applicable to Me2U, that is those who want to SHARE their Airtel data:

To change your pin, Dial *141# from your Airtel line. Select option number five marked as “Gift or Share Data.” Press one, the option of which is “Change Pin (Default PIN – 1234).” Choose any four digits pin of your choice, and you’re all set for Step 2.

Step 2: Share and Gift Data. For step 2, you will be following virtually all the procedures in Step 1–except that after you have selected option number five, you will be choosing option three (option two is “Data Gifting”. Choose if this is your preference and follow the prompt) from the list, marked as “Data Me2U.”

Once here, you will be presented with two other options to choose from–the first marked “Change Pin (Default PIN – 1234)” and the second, “Send Me2U from existing allowance.” Choose option two since you have already set your pin in Step 1 above.

Now you will be asked for your recipient’s number along with data volume (capped at 200 MB per recipient) you’d like to send. Supply this information and remember to click the enter button to proceed until you are successfully able to share your Airtel data with your family, friends, or anyone else you so desire.

Final Thought

Gift and share your data with your loved ones the way you want (it is your data after all) but while at it, remember you are limited to 200MB per recipient for up to a maximum of two recipients.

The validity of your data bundle for Me2U will also be the validity of your recipient’s data. If you are gifting a data through Airtel Gifting, validity is 30 days.

Also if you are using Me2U, keep in mind to use a pin that is hard to guess but easy for you to remember.
